Rent-To-Own

Ok.  I have been reading about too many investment strategies.  I am now interested in rent-to-own (thanks to the great blog posts and 12 Months to $1 Million Club by Julie Broad and Dave Peniuk) and think it might actually work in my area.  We have our own home for sale right now and I had a number of calls from people interested in rent-to-own.  We don’t want to to do it on our home, but it looks like there is a demand for it. Is anyone doing rent-to-own right now?

I have also been reading Tom and Nick Karadza’s free PDF called “Income for Life”.  Even though the book is “for Canadians”, there is a lot of great information in it for investors in the U.S.   Their blog is Renegade Real Estate Blog.

Women Real Estate Investors

I’ve been looking for some online networks and forums for women real estate investors, but have only found the National Association of Women Real Estate Investors: www.nawrei.org.

It sounds like it would be a good group to join, so I signed up for a free membership.  However, there was nothing there…no forum…nothing. And the links that were there, like to the webinars, no longer work. Great.

Does anyone know of another online network for women real estate investors?

I’ve searched locally through meetup.com and searched the local REIA chapters, but haven’t found anything.

It’s not that I don’t want to connect with men real estate investors, but it would be great to connect with other women who are interested in REI. I’ve tried talking to my friends and coworkers about REI and I get blank looks. No one in my circle, besides my husband, is interested in talking about REI.

Where Do I Start in Real Estate Investing?

If you are new to real estate investing, you are probably wondering where the heck to begin. I know it can be overwhelming with all the options, infomercials, guru programs, etc. Should you become a landlord, wholesale, buy commercial property, or rehab houses? I know it has been a little confusing for me reading about the many different options.

If you aren’t familiar with any of the real estate investing options, I suggest reading, reading, and more reading. I started off just searching in Google for “real estate investing” and reading the different websites.

One good website to start looking at is www.reiclub.com. It has a variety of articles to introduce you to do different types of real estate investing. It also has discussion forums about wholesaling, rehabbing, mobile homes, and more.

One of the best websites I have found about real estate investing is www.biggerpockets.com. It has so much information, you may become overwhelmed. I focus on reading about one type of investing strategy each time I visit Bigger Pockets or else I could be on there all day. It’s a great website!

I have also been reading some books and listening to some podcasts, which I will share with you in another post!

It’s Time To Take Action!

It was time to make myself accountable and begin to take action, so I started this blog to chronicle my journey through real estate investing.

I am a working mom (9-5 fulltime job) with 2 kids and a husband who also works full-time. My husband and I have been talking about investing in real estate for the past 7 years. Yes….just talking. We have researched so many different properties and opportunities over the years, but never really took action.

You probably know the deal. We say, “Yeah, we’ll do it in the next few months after we save up some more money” or  “It’s risky…we should wait a few more years”. Well, we decided it’s time to take action!

I hope that this blog will help others, especially working moms and dads who feel like there is never any time to fulfill their dreams, learn more about the different real estate opportunities and take action!
